On Using The Proper Pattern

My brain has been firing on all synapses for pretty much all day… when inspiration hits, it’s like that sometimes. Brainstorming gets me going and once it starts it just won’t stop. So you’ll have to forgive me in advance if I start down the bunny trail today… I’ve been up and down it for hours now…

First thing this morning I made my list of to-do’s and ideas to flesh out for today. I’ve found this list making to be the only thing that keeps me sane some days. As I checked off thing one and two, it led me to Pinterest to research something for another project… which then led me to this wreath:

Sewing_wreath500

{those are pattern pieces used as the base of the wreath…how cool is that?!?!}

Then after swooning all over that, somehow I ended up here… and lost another hour {or two…if I’m being honest…} because The Little Farm Diary has some seriously drool worthy pictures and her house is so colorful and happy… something I’m slowly aspiring to in my own.

You’ll be glad to know I actually did do a few clerical tasks for the ol’ sewing business in between another ‘creative consulting’ session with my best girl and then it was time for lunch! How does that happen?

{You’ll also be glad to know I ate my salad instead of succumbing to the desire for the Mickey D’s cheeseburger that was calling my name… I don’t know what it is about those darn things but building that restaurant so close to my stomping grounds is probably gonna be my downfall!}

So I told you all that to tell you this…

All week long my brain will just not let go of Philippians 4… most notably the parts about not worrying-but to ask God for what you need (notice how they didn’t say want…!), to focus on the “whatevers” that are true, noble, right, etc. and to be content… ok so the whole thing pretty much.

Remember that funny game my mind plays with me until I learn my lessons? Something must be afoot…so I leaned in a little closer while pretending my salad was the best thing I’ve eaten in a while…{yeah I still want that burger…} and read it again out of my Chronological Bible. As I chewed on it, my eyes landed just up the page into the end of chapter 3 where I read this verse…

Dear brothers and sisters, pattern your lives after mine, and learn from those who follow our example. ~ Philippians 3:17

I know it’s Paul talking about himself here, but I know what he was writing was the word of God because the bible does say that all scriptures are inspired and breathed by the man upstairs himself so my heart really takes it to mean that I need to pattern my actions, business, relationships, and whole life after Jesus.

It’s so fun to read and look at everyone’s blogs. It’s awesome to daydream and plan. It’s energizing to bounce ideas off each other but I can go crazy with discontentment and comparison if I’m not careful to keep Jesus as the master pattern from which I cut and make all the parts of my life up from.

pattern your lives

We don’t have to reinvent the wheel because we serve a master who is an ever-loving model.

So maybe that’s why I liked that wreath back at the beginning of today’s trail so much…sewing… patterns… the Master Maker…!

What does the pattern of your life look like lately?
