Mix and Match Missions

This week, the boy is on a mission trip, and we miss him- not only because he’s 5 hours away from home but also because the caliber of our dinner decreases drastically for some reason when he’s not here… Take for example, Monday night’s meal consisting of leftover chips and salsa, the balance of a greek salad, reheated hush puppies and a hot dog … I’m not sure what this says about us…In all actuality, the hot dog/hush puppy combo was sort of like eating a deconstructed corn dog which was a happy accident I suppose… but I’m unwilling to say that this meal will become a staple- we were just trying to clean out the fridge from the weekend. Last night was a step up only because we ordered out…! So maybe today my mission will be to review the 150-some-odd recipes I have pinned on Pinterest and come up with something a little more homemade/nutritious than our current trend. Man, I hope he comes home soon…

Speaking of unusual combinations I’ve been up to no good lots of good preparing for opening the Etsy shop this coming Friday (fingers crossed..!)

Wanna play along and guess how this pile of stuff…which used to be a vintage cafe curtain (I got excited and forgot to take proper before pictures…)

end up together…?

I’ll give you a hint…

Ok, how about how this combination of reclaimed pom pom trim…

Baby Elephant: “pardon me, may I borrow a suitcase? I only have a little trunk”…

(That.makes.me.laugh.so.hard…Again, not sure what that says about me..!)

Apparently this shop keeping makes me somewhat punchy…I hope you’ll still come back Friday for the whole scoop on how I’m stocking the shop…

And speaking of other not so ordinary combinations, you should really go over here and read about the retired Christian minister from Oklahoma who has been on mission in New York City the past 2 weeks working with group you wouldn’t normally think to pair him with. The recap alone is such an inspiration… We are all called to different tasks and just like the kids and I talked about Sunday in class – 1 Timothy 4:12… Never let anyone look down on you for being young… or old or a stay at home mom or divorced or single or whatever  (of course those last few qualities were totally my additions…) but keep setting an example in how you live and love and serve. Everyone’s mission might look different depending on their season in life or their calling but they all share the same theme: Love God and Love Our Neighbor.

Even if our mission feels kind of like a mix and match and might not look like we think or expect… it’s ok – God loves to use what doesn’t make sense…! I never imagined writing this blog (partly because they didn’t exist 15 years ago…) but here I am. It’s comical really coming from the painfully shy kid who spelled a word wrong… on purpose… to avoid being in an elementary school spelling bee because I didn’t want to be the center of attention… (Good one God..!) Sometimes you just have to roll with it and let God lead.

I’ll leave you with the quote from Mark Batterson which I love:

The key to getting out of the boat is hearing the voice of God. If you’re going to get out of the boat in the middle of a lake in the middle of the night, you better make sure that Jesus said, “Come”. But if Jesus said, “Come”, you better not stay in the boat…!

Happy Wednesday Everyone!

and SOS… send recipes…!
