Off the Grid

This week has been long and quiet here on the blog so much so that maybe some of you wondered if I’d fallen off the face of the earth…! Not to worry, you can’t get rid of me that easy…! Spring = busy – except this week it’s been mostly in my mind as I alternate furiously between digging pretty little pits of self doubt and making mountains out of molehills…Both are strenuous activities however neither will produce any good result! And since I didn’t learn these skills in a day, I know it will also take some time to unlearn them. But I see a light at the end of the tunnel…and I’m pretty sure for once it’s not a train…

I read the following quote the other day out of the book Jesus Calling, “A grateful attitude becomes a grid through which you perceive life. Gratitude enables you to see the light of my presence shining on all your circumstances.

Coming from an artsy background {art was my elective of choice all through middle and high school until technical drawing and computer drafting came into vogue and then I was smitten because for a while there all that seemed so much cooler than doing ‘art’…in hindsight, I probably should’ve stuck to the art…!} But in any case, the word grid struck me. Remembering back to those awkward teenage years {you know age 14 through 30…} and lessons learned in art class, if you wanted to enlarge or copy a picture or drawing, you could place a grid on it and then by using a bigger grid on your paper (like this) you could transfer the lines or shapes within those smaller blocks into the larger blocks keeping them all in scale. To try and reproduce a picture by hand without said grid often left you with some wonky results…

I guess the idea taking shape in my thoughts was that my everyday irritations can loom large unless I throw them on that grid of thankfulness. Then I’m able to break them down into small chunks and see that they’re not all that bad in the grand scheme of things. The act and art of giving thanks even in the midst of my difficulties actually puts my complaints into perspective….

something good

So in light of all that pondering the past few days, I shall declare this ” Thankful Thursday”…even if there are only a few hours left…!

Here are my top 3 things I’m thankful for this week:

1. A sweet sister-in-law that stops by with Krispy Kreme donuts AND comes to the rescue with a sacrificial run to the grocery store when I discover, in the witching hour {that hour before dinner when the natives are restless and hungry…}that I forgot the yeast for my pizza crust…

2. Laughing with my husband over all kinds of stuff throughout the week– again it’s all in the perspective

3. Fridays happen every week. They’re guaranteed ; )

Happy Almost Weekend Everyone!
