Looking Beyond Christmas

Some of us have already put Christmas away- the tree is down, the lights are dark, the presents are un-boxed and in use. I, however, am slow moving… I like my lights, I miss the glow when their gone and the windows always look so bare after the greenery is down. But being lazy has it’s advantages because had I cleaned it all up the day after Christmas like my sweet aunt, I would have missed this picture:

...i could not have set up that shadow any better myself...
…i could not have set up that shadow any better myself…

It was a few days after Christmas and I was working out and happened to turn towards the tree, maybe to have something pretty to look at as I did my squats…! And I saw that shadow. How perfect and clear. The sun was coming through the window at just the right angle and I was seeing it at just the right time. So I stopped mid squat and grabbed for my camera.

Looking at it today, it reminds me to look beyond the day of Christmas. It reminds me to not let my goodwill and giving and peace towards men stop even after the season is over and the tree and decorations are all put away. So I’m going to try and keep the feeling of Christmas with me even after I’ve stowed away the last box in the attic this year.

It’s funny, I always forget to put some decoration up and have to make another trip up to finagle it into the nearest box. But maybe this year I will keep whatever I forget to put away down as my reminder to incorporate the message of Christ into every day.

What will you keep to remind you of Christmas?

Merry Merry 2014 y’all..!
