Your Guide to a Mindful Home Reset

I finally hung these pictures on the wall in my studio- the room where I craft and create for my vintage booth, do online coaching calls, pay my bills, play music and workout! To say it’s a multipurpose space is an understatement!

And I’m willing to bet you have a room or two in your home that pulls double (or triple!) duty as well.

Sure she looks good all gussied up now but a few months ago told a different story- an overflowing closet of fabric and guitars. Extra decor piled around from cleaning out a cabinet in another room. A desk I couldn’t see the top of… please know you’re not alone in your home overwhelm, my friend!!

So how did I get here you might wonder? I started by acknowledging how I felt (pretty icky about it all to be honest) and what I thought about where I was.

👎🏻Overwhelmed by the chaos.

👎🏻Disappointed in my organization- or lack thereof.

👎🏻Fatigued by the thought of making decisions on what to keep and let go.

Of course.

And once I met myself in the “ick” and gave myself permission to feel all those things my brain calmed down and I was able to access something magical… new guiding thoughts that sparked me to start tackling the challenge.

✨I’m making room to create new things

I know when to let go of things i no longer need

I know how to display and store the things I choose to keep

✨There’s no right way to do it and this is how I’m doing it today.

(You’re welcome to borrow a few if you need them too!)

Thoughts —-> lead to feelings—> which lead to actions! Those actions reinforce thoughts and then the cycle spins on and on… for better or for worse.

Thoughts become things.

“As a man thinks, so is he” – Proverbs 23:7

God created the world by speaking and because we are made in His image, His handiwork recreated in Christ Jesus, we have divine threads of the same power.

The power to think and then speak things into existence.

To put it another way…

Once my thoughts were headed in the right direction I was able to take small actions breaking the project down into bite size chunks.

I actually started with the closet. (Give yourself permission to go smaller if you need-maybe start with the floor of the closet or the shelf)

I pushed all else aside and emptied it onto the floor. Then I sorted it into piles:

  1. keep
  2. trash
  3. goodwill/give away
  4. rehome in another part of the house.

Moving piles 2 through 3 out of the way made it simpler to corral & organize what was left.

For now I used what I had – small shelves and boxes to store things – but it gave me a clearer picture of what I could do with some better built in shelving down the road and now at least I can shut the closet door again!

Tackling smaller areas builds momentum and trust with ourselves that we can do what we set out to do.  And in no time we can have a calm and collected space!

So dear ones, what kind of house are you creating for yourself? I can assure you I have so much grace for whatever “house” you find yourself in!
