Let’s go on a trip, shall we? Travel with me way back to a cooler time…
When I was bored last winter and I fixed up the bedroom gallery wall, but the rest of it looked like this…
and this…
And then I bought this crate… in March… which sat in my kitchen floor for a while…
…yeah it looks a little green.. pay no attention to that…
But I had a plan…
A few weeks back, we enacted the great bedroom furniture swap of 2014 in which the boy took possession of my husband’s dresser because he had too many pairs of shorts and jeans and pants and other boy stuff (seriously where do they get all.the.things…??) to fit in the 3 drawers of the desk he was using as a dresser… (you know how we like to “use what we got” around here…) The mind blowing thing was that by adding another piece of furniture to his room and moving the bed to another it magically made the room seem bigger… I wish this would happen in all my rooms… then I could feel better about buying that cute vanity I saw at the Goodwill last week…
But after that, it meant my husband needed a replacement dresser so he was granted that little black and gold number in the photo above and it was moved to his side of the room… which then meant that I had a blank wall to deal with… and no wall shall remain blank in my house for long… so one afternoon I staged a swap just to see what my dresser would look like on that wall…
… and I liked it pretty darn good…!
But then the work really began, because I had to rob this picture from the living room so the wall wouldn’t look so desolate above it… at least until we put a flat screen there as the husband says…! The jury is still out on that one…
Our placeholder for now is a project from a few years back. If you squint.. or maybe not.. it spells out our last name “M-A-R-S-H-a-L-L” by using pictures of things around our house and travels at that time to represent the letters…I may have been reaching by using the drum and the stick to represent that second lower-case “a” but I think it still works…!
At another one of my sweet husband’s suggestions, I hung up all my hats along the bump out wall by the door…
…and my plan for the crate finally materialized… I had originally wanted to hang it on the wall, but laziness won out it looked pretty rockin’ just corralling the husband’s toy guns and Roy Rogers records that belonged to him and his dad as well as some cute pics of the boy…
..and yes, once I noticed the western theme… I sorta just ran with it by changing up all the frames to random silver ones I had around the house. And by adding the bronze stars on either side of the Marshall picture but don’t ask about the brass drawer pull… it looked scroll-y and western and I had a brain wave to hang the deer sling from it somehow, but it hasn’t come together in my mind yet- remember sometimes I work slow..! Never be afraid to let your house evolve and come together over time!
And if you’re wondering if there is now a “hole” on the other side of the room where my dresser used to reside, I will quell your fears and leave you with a sneak peak…
That’s a story for another day!
What furniture swaps have you guys made lately? Do you suffer from the ‘if you give a mouse a cookie syndrome’ in decorating like me? Do your projects tend to snowball?
P.S… I think I would take a snowball today!!
Happy Hot Wednesday!

Well, not a real cowgirl! Truthfully, I’d be lost around a cow or a horse! But I do appreciate the lifestyle and hard work that goes into it!
