I had a plan.
I had double checked my measurements online. I bought baskets before my dream tv console shipped because I was being practical and prepared. But my go-getter attitude got the best of me. {Guess it goes to show one shouldn’t believe everything they read on the internet.}
And spoiler alert- they did not fit.
At least it wasn’t as bad as a couch stuck in a stairwell…
Did I cry in a corner when the revelation came to pass? Not a bit…well, maybe.. but only for a minute… I’ve been practicing this whole being open and flexible and not hard on myself thing and turns out I keep getting lots of circumstances to test these pivoting skills on.
I can’t take credit for the whole redirection- my other half saw the value in putting the lanterns instead of the shelves in the side cubbies after all. And we decided we probably didn’t need 100 DVDs divided between 4 large baskets anyway.

But I do take full credit for the luscious looking plants that can’t be killed (they just need dusting once in a while). That Family Dollar around the corner is really stepping up their game!
So, how can you stay motivated when things don’t turn out like you planned?
~ Remember the big picture and the overall vision you have for your space. Things can always usually be returned or reworked. Very few decisions on this side of heaven are final.
~ Honor your disappointment – Being aware of your feelings- even just the act of naming them can keep you moving forward.
~ Have compassion for yourself in whatever you feel– take a walk, do something fun or comforting- it often leads to getting re-inspired!
At the end of the day, remember the goal is progress over perfection. Falling on your face is still moving forward! Trial and error only increases your tolerance & resilience and keep in mind a perfect solution rarely exists. Our spaces and our needs are always evolving.
And I can’t wait to see what you do next!
