Today I’m thankful for babies.
If you’ve known me for a while this is probably a strange statement to see typed in black and white but I’m about to be an aunt again come February and I just can’t help it.
We celebrated this weekend with the prerequisite shower for my sweet sister-in-law full of food, games and lots of tiny blue outfits.
Babies are both a blessing and a burden on your heart like no other. They bring joy, fear, excitement and exhaustion. And it starts before they’re even born.
Babies will bust your hips, your budget and your heart — but in the best possible way.
A mama sometimes doesn’t even realize her capacity to love someone so much until she sees that tiny pink face and instincts just take over. Heck sometimes those instincts even kick in when you come eye to eye with the 13 old, whose dad you just joined in marriage – making you one big happy family… ask me how I know…
A mama will fight fiercely to make sure her cub is cared for and kept safe. Loved and cherished.
And isn’t that so similar to how God feels about us?
Early this year I was smitten with my cousin’s girls who were born in April and we’ve made several trips to NC to love on them since they were born. It’s one thing to create diaper cakes and a whole ‘nother to create a human being. One thing to make up precious packages adorned with socks and another to make bottles through sleepy eyes in the middle of the night.
…Over and over and over again…
Baby tending was exhausting even for just a weekend but I pitched in the best I could- rocking and toting, playing and catering to their needs because they surely couldn’t do things on their own.
And it was in that helplessness and total dependence, in those cries and answers that I saw myself truly as a child of God. Those girls needed us to feed and clothe them. To wash and change them. Nurture and guide and raise them up in the way they should go.
Just like I need Jesus to do those same things spiritually for me.
So if you need me, I’ll be keeping watch over here praying, perusing pinterest and producing all the baby crafts under the sun to show my love to these new little ones.

Thankful today for family and friends. One friend went home to Jesus monday. Thankful for the years I knew him and know he is dining with Jesus today, as we all miss Terry. He will truly be missed and we all can be grateful to have been a part of his life.
